1. Which household chores am I allowed to do/not do?
An au pair's work should always be related to the children. However, as a family member, you should do family chores
similar to other family members to keep the house running efficiently. For example, helping to set the dinner table or
wash dishes is acceptable. Scrubbing the kitchen floor every week is not acceptable.
2. How quickly will my Mandarin improve?
That depends on many things such as how much you know already and how much you study and practice. Try to
spend as much time with your host family as you can and get improved with the local community to make Chinese
friends. One thing is certain: your Mandarin will be significantly better when you leave China!
3. Can I leave the program early?
As an au pair, you agree to complete a 12 month program. We know from our experience that au pairs who complete
the 12 month program feel more satisfied about their Chinese experience. If you choose to break your contact and
leave early, you will be giving up any deposit you may have paid and you will have to purchase your return flight home.
